From Curiosity to Profession
Introduction To Blogging
Back in 2007, The Google’s blogger was launched. There was so much buzz about the new medium of expression, the blogging. I heard of some people who write their opinion on the blog. The blog has given the liberty to get published and reach to the readers. At that time, I never thought of the making money through a blog.
But free-dom of expression excited me. I and my colleague at CNBC-Awaaz, Harshvardhan learnt about the blogging. Using blogger platform Harshvardhan started his blog Batangad.blogspot.com. I also blocked some names on blogger, but at that time I could not start the blogging. Harshvardhan proceeded with his opinion blog.
However, I liked the idea of free and independent publishing. I also motivated my sister to start her own blog. Eventually, she started a blog to write her poetry. But, I did not.
Loved The Blog As A Medium of Communication
Meanwhile, in next 5 year, I learnt about the other aspects of blogging. I learnt that blogging is an excellent platform of information and knowledge sharing. I also got to know that blogging can earn serious money as well.
Somehow, I found it suitable for me. I was a journalist with the India’s number one business channel CNBC-Awaaz. I learnt many things about the investing and personal finance. The blog could give a platform to share that knowledge and information. Within my office also, I used to help out people in financial matters.
I also went for the certified financial planner course. The study of CFP also helped me to understand the personal finance better.
Till mid-2013, I was convinced that I should have a personal finance blog. I had a lot to share about the personal finance. I thought over the language of my blog. I have been a Hindi journalist for years and loved my language. But the internet is dominated by the English. Most Google searches are in English only. People rarely search a financial information in Hindi or any regional language. The global power of English won and I decided to write in English only. Initially, I was not very comfortable to write in English. I learnt it hands on and still learning.
Initial Steps of Blogging
I started my blog during the job, but it remained private. I did not want to expose it during the infant days. I used to write occasionally. There were no earning from the blog. Adsense did not approve my application as the blog was in a nascent stage. I tried some affiliate marketing, but earning was nominal.
I Became A Full-Time Blogger
Life took a turn and I decided to be with my old-age parents. I quit the CNBC Awaaz and Mumbai both. I came back to my native place, Allahabad. Instead of searching another job, I wanted to work on the PlanMoneyTax. In spite of resistance from family, I persisted with the blogging. Adsense has approved my account and I started to earn some regular money. It gave me hope.
The blogging has given me liberty to be your own boss. It gave me satisfaction to help others. I became a full-time personal finance blogger. Now I had to learn the tricks and tips of blogging. The HTML, CSS, SEO and online marketing. I did not spend money on website designing and SEO. But I had to spend on domain and hosting. With the increase of traffic, now hosting is getting costlier.
The Business Model of My Blog
Since this blog is about money, I should also tell you about my income from this blog. To run this website and get my remuneration, I am primarily dependent on Advertisements. The Google AdSense serves the ads on my site and I am paid for ad clicks. Besides this, I also accept the direct banner ads from the advertisers. I am also exploring Affiliate marketing. In this method, I am paid a little commission if someone go to the online shopping sites through my blog. The shopper does not pay anything extra.

About Me [Chandrakant Mishra]
I was born in Allahabad District of Uttar Pradesh. My father was college teacher and my mother is a homemaker. Till the age of 7, I studied in our ancestral village. It is 20 away km from Allahabad. In 1987, we shifted to Allahabad city. Till 8th, I studied in my neighbourhood school, S S High School. I did my 10 and 10+2 from the Allahabad Inter College. I passed 10+2 with science subjects. However, my home had a literary environment. My father was the Hindi lecturer.
I studied B. Sc from the Ewing Christian College of Allahabad. A beautiful place to learn.
During my graduation, I tilted towards the journalism. To be an efficient journalist I have done a diploma in computer application. After the diploma, I got admission in the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass communication. The one-year course of journalism changed my way of thinking. It was a free flowing course and we evolved a lot.
Just after the journalism course, I joined Sahara Samay News Channel, Delhi. After one and half year stint of trainee journalist, I found myself misfit in the organisation. I quit the Sahara Samay. Soon I got an offer from the CNBC TV18, Mumbai. I was appointed in the soon to be launched CNBC Awaaz as News Assistant.
I was there for 10 good years. From the News Assistant, I promoted up to Assistant editor. Moreover, I learnt the ABC of the business from the CNBC Awaaz. The CNBC Awaaz put me in a different tangent. I was learning the tricks of Share trading and finance. While, in my family, no one has ever invested in the share market. They considered it similar to Satta. But Soon, I started to put money in shares [My father still disapproves it].
In the beginning, I was also carried away by the tips of the so-called expert. But, Later I realized that the tips and expert views are the market noise. I have to discount it. I liked the value investing principle. I studied the Benjamin Graham and Warren buffet. I found their philosophy trustworthy. I also researched thoroughly to pick the value stocks. The principle of value investing proved beneficial to me. I still hold 5-6-year-old stocks.
Along with stock investing I also learnt the financial market and personal finance. Finally this learning and my technical orientation bring me towards blogging.
In 2005, I got married with Savita my wife. It was an arranged marriage and I have completed 10 years of happy married life. I have two sons the Aviral and Abhinav.
My parents have turned 70. Now they feel themselves less able and lonely. But they did not want to leave our native town. Finally, I took the tough decision and shifted back to Allahabad. The colleagues and friends were not convinced with this move. But, I wanted to be with my parents. Since, I came to Allahabad, the blogging has become my full-time profession. I have allotted a separate workstation in the second floor of my house. I have also developed a small rooftop nursery in front of my office.
Sometimes It is difficult to work from home but I am trying to manage the time. Let us see how it goes.
