Format of EPF Account Number
The typical format of the EPF account number is given below. It contains both the alphabets and numbers. This number contains the information about the EPF office which manages your EPF account. It also contains the code of your organisation. Every block of PF number is separated by the slash(/).
In the above example, the ‘DS’ stands for the Delhi region. It means the company of the employee is registered in the Delhi region.
The code NHP stands for the EPF office south Delhi. There can be many EPF offices in a region. Thus there are separate codes for every office.
The next block is space to fill the code of your organisation. This would be same for every employee of your company. This is a numeric code and can be of the maximum 7 digits.
The penultimate box is used for the extension. The big companies have many extensions. Thus, your EPF account number can have the extension as well. However, for most of the employee, there would not be any extension in their PF number. Therefore, the account number of such employee may contain only 4 block.
The last block is unique to you in your company. It is the specific to an employee. This can go up to 7 digits.
How To Fill EPF account Number At epfindia.gov.in
You have to fill the EPF account number for many online facilities of EPFindia.gov.in. To fill the EPF number online, you have to follow a specific process.
You can’t fill the whole EPF account number at once. Rather you have to give the every block of EPF account one by one.
Select EPF Region
First of all the EPF portal asks the EPF region. The first two alphabets of your EPF account number are the code for the region. However, you can’t enter it. Instead, you have to choose the region from the drop-down list. It ensures the correct region code.
Choose EPF Office
Once you select the region, you would see the names of all EPF offices which fall under the given EPF region. Click on the hyperlink of the desired EPF office. You can match the code of EPF office with your EPF account.
Enter Organisation Code
In the next page, you can see the EPF region code and office code entered into the block of EPF account number. Now, you have to fill the company code and account number. To fill the company code refer to the third block of your full EPF account number. It would be in numerals. The maximum numeral can’t be more than 7.
Enter Extension, If It is there
Now, you have to fill the extension. But if there is no extension in your account number, you can leave it blank. It can be a digit or letter as the case may be and can be of maximum 3 characters in size. This is the only block which can be left blank. All other four block should be filled.
Fill the Member ID
The last block of the number is filled in the last box. You must enter in this box. The account number can be of the maximum 7 digits.
